Y Camp creates a safe, fun and magical experience so that campers grow socially and independently while learning the core values of Caring, Honest, Respect and Responsibility. Y Camp staff are carefully screened and selected to ensure a safe environment and the highest quality experience for your camper. Each staff member participates in a week-long training, during which they learn safety awareness, camper relations and programming options. Y Camp staff are required to have current certifications in CPR, First Aid and AED. We use a 6:1 camper to staff ratio; well below American Camp Association standards.



A $20 non-refundable deposit is due at the time of registration. Balance dues are due ONE WEEK prior to the camp session attending.

Y Camp will AUTO-DRAFT your balance due through your credit/debit account.

- The credit/debit account used for your deposit payment will be used to draft your payment. This draft will occur on Thursday prior to the camp session your camper is attending.

- If you would like to use a different credit/debit account to draft the balance due payment, if you paid by check or if you need to make other payment arrangements please contact the Y Camp office at 515.432.7558 or

Want to make payments towards your balance due? You may call the Y Camp office at any time to make a payment or mail a payment to Y Camp.



Through generous contributions from YMCA members and the United Way, no one is turned away from the YMCA due to verifiable inability to pay.



*A Day Camp Leader will be present before check in and after drop off and is responsible for the care of the campers.
*All campers must be checked in and checked out.  If you need to drop off or pick up your camper from Y Camp, please contact the camp office to arrange drop off or pick up. 
*Only authorized people will be allowed to pick up a camper.  A person is authorized by if his/her name is listed on the Authorization Form.  Please contact the Y Camp office to update the form if needed. 
*All persons authorized to pick up a camper must show photo ID at the time of pick up.  Campers will not be released to anyone failing to show photo ID.


Herman Park, South Greene Street, Boone

Lloyd Kertz Park, off of Bloomington Rd, Ames

Y Camp staff will be at the Boone and Ames sites at 7:30 a.m. The bus will leave the Ames site at 8:00 a.m. and the Boone site at 8:15 a.m.

Busses will return approximately 4:15 p.m. (Boone) and 4:30 p.m. (Ames). Y Camp asks that all campers be picked up by 5:30 p.m. 

Photo ID is required by the person picking up camper.

In the event that the bus is running more than 30 minutes (for unforeseen events) Y Camp will call parent cell phones to inform parents of estimated times of arrival.



As you pack your camper’s belongings, make sure you bring the following daily:
• Backpack
• Swim Suit
• Towel
• Sandals- NO flip flops
• Old tennis shoes
• Sun Block (SPF 30+)
• Water Bottle (Required)
• Non-aerosol bug repellent


Some items will be taken and stored safely until check-out, while others will require a phone call to parents or result in the dismissal of a camper from camp. Y Camp is not responsible for lost, stolen or damaged items.
- Candy/Food, Cash, Fireworks, Personal Sports Equipment, Electronics (hand-held games, iPods, Cell Phones, etc), Knives or other weapons, Alcohol/Tobacco products/Illegal substances, Animals, Flip Flops.



Safety Procedures for Pick-up and Drop-off
- Please stay back a minimum of 15 feet from bus while bus is in motion
- Please do not approach bus until it is at a complete stop and the doors of bus have opened
- Do not enter or exit bus while it is in motion

Basic Bus Rules to discuss with your campers
- Once bus is moving please stay seated on your pockets (no standing)
- Please keep all limbs in the bus at all times
- Please keep noise level to a level that the Bus Driver can operate the bus safely
- Please act according to the four core character values: Caring, Honesty, Respect and Responsibility.

The Whistle Stop is open for campers every day. Items in the Trading Post consist of snacks and camp merchandise. When you check in your child, you may deposit money in a personal account. At the end of the week, all unspent money is returned to the camper prior to checking out. Your child will not be permitted to spend over his/her credit, so please leave enough money for all his/her needs. On average, day campers have between $5- $15 in their account. Prices range from $1.00 for soda/candy to $15.00 for a t-shirt, or more for a sweatshirt.



In the event your child becomes ill or injured while at camp in a manner that requires a stay in the Good Health Center or need further attention by the Health Care Provider the child’s parents will be contacted.

To avoid overheating and dehydration during the week, water bottles are mandatory at Y camp . Campers are welcome to bring one from home or purchase one from the Y Camp store. Dehydration is a serious matter! Help us prevent heat related illness. If your child has special needs that require specific attention, please notify Y Camp. We will make all reasonable attempts to accommodate those needs, however, our staff is not trained to handle all medical or psychological needs.



If any camper chooses to tease, bully or physically confront another camper with the intent to cause harm, they will be expelled from camp by the discretion of the Summer Camp Director. Refunds will not be awarded to camp families for campers sent home for disciplinary reasons. Parents are responsible for transporting campers from camp and are expected to respond in a timely fashion.



Y Camp staff are trained to deal with inappropriate behavior in a constructive, safe and non-degrading fashion. Campers will be held responsible for their actions in a positive manner. Y Camp reserves the right to send a camper home at the parent’s expense if the camper’s behavior consistently takes away from the experience of others or endangers his/her safety or others. A camper will immediately be sent home for incidences concerning violence or threats of violence. Again, parents are responsible for transporting campers from camp and are expected to respond in a timely fashion. For more information on bullying and Y Camp’s response, please visit
