Labor Day Weekend $150/person:
- September 4- 7
All Other Fall Weekends $75/person:
- September 11- 13
- September 18- 20
- October 16- 18
What to Expect:
The program will start with screening each family before they move into their cabins. Our family-focused weekend begins with ensuring each registered family has an exclusive cabin and restroom, as we will avoid sharing spaces as much as possible. Each family will receive a schedule, complete with times and days for planned exclusive activities such as archery, canoeing, climbing, crafts, staff-led hikes and more. Each day will end with camp staff-led entertaining songs and skits brought to each cabin. Additionally, we’ll offer hot meals for pick up at our Dining Hall. Families will stop by, grab their meal and head out to have a picnic, eat in the cabin or find a creative place to enjoy your meal (maybe the Y Camp Fort?!). Specialty meals and dietary restrictions can be noted on the registration page. Our goal is to provide your family with a unique camp experience focused on connection, engagement and fun.
We will only utilize cabins that have exclusive restroom access to avoid communal spaces at camp. All cabins are equipped with heating and air conditioning to ensure that you are comfortable during your stay. Around camp we will restrict access to any communal restrooms and will discourage any gatherings of more than one family. Y Camp does have Wifi access available in various locations around the facility so that you can keep up to date with communications.
Social Distancing Procedures
We have made many procedural updates to ensure we are offering a safe program to all. We have been working with the CDC, American Camping Association, Y of the USA and the local Department of Public Health to design a program that is safe for campers and staff. There will be regular temperature checks, hand-washing and sanitizing stations, required masks at program areas and suggested social distancing practices. By scheduling each family we will prepare for time needed to sanitize all program spaces and avoid congestion or congregation between families at or between activities. All staff wear the proper PPE and are trained in sanitization and prevention protocol. The need for social distancing has guided our decision-making process for this program and led to decisions to close communal restrooms and spaces, focus on exclusive experiences and institute increased screening practices throughout the week.
Traditional Family Camp- Summer
Family Camp at the Des Moines Y Camp is a wonderful opportunity to focus on what matters most: the ones we love. Family is one of the strongest support systems we have and at Y Camp we believe that a healthy family starts with quality time investment. Thus, Family Camp was created.
This program spans generations, first running in the 1930s and drawing families from across the country and from many different backgrounds. During the week camp is open to you and your loved ones. You can relax poolside, hike the woodland trails with your family, take part in fun-filled evening programs, ride a horse at the Ranch and challenge your fears by flying down Y Camp’s zip line. The week is yours and you can choose your adventure with the ones you love!
If you're looking for seasonal family options outside of summer, we offer Fall, Winter and Spring family program offerings! To learn more, check the bottom of this page for more on weekend camp outs for the family!
Start a new family tradition!
Many of our families have decided to make a trip to Family Camp a tradition. Generations of campers, from infants to grandparents, come to celebrate the bonds of family in a place that feels like a second home to all who come. Whether it’s your first time or your family’s 75th year at camp, the Des Moines Y Camp welcomes you with warm smiles and open arms. Be a part of something great!
What will you find at Family Camp?
Each summer, Family Campers vote for and elect a Mayor. That mayor picks a theme and creates your experience with Y Camp’s help.
It’s a huge honor and a big responsibility to lead Family Camp as the mayor.
This year’s mayors are Jeff and Kelly Bakke, with their children Kylie and Lydia.
