In order to meet the need to get outdoors and offer opportunities to find adventure this summer, we have created an adapted Summer Family Program to serve our families in a new way during the COVID-19 crisis. This summer, Y Camp will offer eight five-night programs in order to give families a way to connect and get out into nature. The program will incorporate the guidance of several organizations and involve many procedures to mitigate risk while preserving the camp experience. Please come join us for a summer of fun at Y Camp!
The program will start on Sunday afternoon with check-in and screening before families move into their cabins. Our family-focused week begins with ensuring each registered family has an exclusive cabin and restroom, as we will avoid sharing spaces as much as possible throughout the week. Each family will receive a schedule at the start of their week, complete with times and days for planned exclusive activities such as horseback rides, archery, canoeing, climbing, crafts, staff-led hikes and more. Each day will end with camp staff-led entertaining songs and skits brought to each cabin. Additionally, we’ll offer three hot meals each day for pick up at our Dining Hall to keep our families well fed. Our goal is to provide your family with a unique camp experience focused on connection, engagement and fun. The week will close on Friday evening after dinner as our participants say good-bye to Y Camp for 2020 and start to look ahead to the return of traditional programming next year.
We will only utilize cabins that have exclusive restroom access during this program to avoid communal spaces at camp. All cabins will have air conditioning as well to ensure that you are comfortable during your stay. Around camp we will restrict access to any communal restrooms and will discourage any gatherings of more than one family. Therefore our dining hall and pool house will not be opened to participants during the week. Y Camp does have Wifi access available in various locations around the facility so that you can keep up to date with communications.
Y Camp’s kitchen will continue to provide great camp food for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Starting with dinner on Sunday night and finishing with dinner on Friday we will serve meals in a to-go fashion from our Dining Hall. Families will stop by, grab their meal and head out to have a picnic, eat in the cabin or get creative about how they have dinner. Specialty meals and dietary restrictions can be noted on the registration page for this program.
Social Distancing Procedures
There will be many procedural updates to ensure we are offering a safe program to all. We are working with the CDC, American Camping Association, Y of the USA and the local Department of Public Health to design a program that is safe for campers and staff. There will be regular temperature checks, hand-washing and sanitizing stations, required masks at program areas and suggested social distancing practices. By scheduling the week we will prepare for time needed to sanitize all program spaces and avoid congestion or congregation between families at or between activities. All staff will wear the proper PPE and will be trained in sanitization and prevention protocol. The need for social distancing has guided our decision-making process for this program and led to decisions to close communal restrooms, tightly schedule, focus on exclusive experiences and institute increase screening practices throughout the week.
